my character is inspired by a leech..since my primary need of survival is people...my freinds and family are of utmost importance to me...although a negative trait i hate to admite im quite attention seeking in nature...i need constant reminding that the people who i consider close to me love me n respect me n miss me if im away from me...my entire room is covered of a gazillion pictures of happy tymes wid my loved ones to comfort me ..just like a leech is parasitical in nature and thrives on peoples blood...i thrive on peoples attention,,,i dont have many other requirements as such..

getting down to primordial needs ...my character for food would survive in an ectoplasm of foetuses (y foetuses?cos they r people at the most basic evolutionary stage and are again parasitical whicch makes them common with the leech)where it can survive of the positive energys of the infants...otherwise it would stay in a dark dingy room,,with music n pictures and very dim light ,,just like hw i live now...

The essay is centered around the ongoing debate on the effects of reproduction of art vis-à-vis the experience of the original art work I its authentic setting. John Berger, Walter Benjamin and Ian Knizek have put forward significant critiques analyzing and questioning the relevance of various elements that attribute to the experience of the artwork itself .
Walter Benjamin, in his elitist view of artwork talks about how' technological reproduction devalues the 'here and now" of the artwork -that is the aura around its unique existence in a particular place'(102)with the underlying concept of its authenticity. Ian Knizek, puts forward his argument in context to the modern lifestyle and how internet as the new medium is worth discussing as it disseminates information about art to the masses at the mere click of a mouse. John Berger focuses on photography with its characteristics particular to mechanical reproduction such as the use of close-ups, slow motion, etc and the fact that now art is easily accessible and one no longer need to go to a particular place to view it.

Benjamin's argument concentrates not so much on the benefits of mechanical reproduction but rather on the problem of mechanical reproduction. His main point being that mechanical reproduction destroys the ‘aura’ of works of art and when we reproduce art work we separate it from its own time and place which enables the original to meet the recipient halfway whether in form of a photograph or a gramophone record. The context in which we view the work is artificial. "Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space: its unique existence at the place where it happens to be(103)." The social role of art is imperative to the ‘aura’ of the artwork even if the ritual or religious value of the work exists only within the context of the museum. Reproducing art and distributing it detaches it from its history and its context thus destroying its aura.
Berger in his book 'Ways of Seeing' talks about how invention of the camera changed the very view in which paintings were viewed. "In earlier times the paintings were an integral part of the building for which they were originally designed."(Berger 19) He adds that the uniqueness of every painting was once a part of the uniqueness of the place it resided in and even if it was transportable it could never be seen in two places at once. So "when a camera reproduces a painting it not only destroys the uniqueness but also changes the meaning, more so, it multiplies and fragments it into many meanings"(berger 19).

However, Ian Knizek, in his critique of Benjamin's essay, "Walter Benjamin and the Mechanical Reproducibility of Art Works Revisited," is quick to note that Benjamin's concept of aura "refers to something which is not in the work of art"(358). Knizek notes that the aura is determined by society and hence mechanical reproduction does nothing to dislocate the work from its place in history. The work continues within its historical place because it’s aura is "communicated through oral tradition or art-historical research”(knizek 361) According to Knizek, and implicitly in Benjamin's essay, art objects and their uniqueness come as a result of their own relationship with history and the art world. Art books then, and magazines to a lesser extent, do nothing to destroy the uniqueness of art because they only reinforce its presence within history. For example, why would a painting be reproduced within a book if not to refer to it, strengthen its claim in the art-historical scope? The history according to Knizek is determined by the mechanical reproductions.

Berger (in his book ways of seeing) sites an interesting example to show how reproduction has given a boost to the original artwork. "The National gallery sells more reproductions of Leonardo's cartoon of The Virgin and the child with St Anne and St John the Baptist than any other pictures in their collection. A few years ago, it was only
known to scholars. It became famous because an American wanted to buy it for two and a half million pounds. It now hangs in a room by itself. The room is a chapel. The drawing is behind bulletproof Perspex. It has acquired a new kind of impressiveness not because of what it shows -not because of the meaning of the image. It has become impressive, mysterious, because of its market value”. Berger goes on to say that, “having seen a reproduction, one can go to the National Gallery to look at the original and there discover what the reproduction lacks. Alternatively one can forget about the quality of the reproduction and simply be reminded when one sees the original, that it is a famous painting of which somewhere one has already seen a reproduction. But in either case the uniqueness of the original lies in it being the original of a reproduction”. (berger 23)
According to Knizek, the entire experience of viewing is changed in the climate of the Internet where the medium is controlled by the fact that we become mere "users" when we go online and visit a museum page instead of the "viewer" we once were in the context of the actual museum.

Based on the above arguments, it can be concluded that while reproduction of art is detrimental to the romanticized aura of the original, it might be a dated idea to ignore the significance of dissemination of information through technological reproduction for it is vital to the popularization of the very existence of a masterpiece.

i love travelling but i hate sitting in one place for a long time...
espescially in a bus..it makes me feel like old n helpless ...dependant on someone elses mercy ..in this case the driver to stop the freaking bus,,,dark clouds of sadness surround me.....(drawn and exxperienced on the journey bak from paris!!!!!)

when at leisure that maybe in a bus or maybe during class ,when i feel like ignoring what actually surrounds me i find random bits of paper n draw people around me n later stick them at the back of my book..

ESCAPISM.....
i feel that music in general is an excellent way to excercise escapism in an unwanted or chaotic situation....,,the ipod or any sort of mp3 player is a near n dear friend to those who use public transport a lot....the beauty lies in the fact its truely excapist in nature yet it touches n rekindles so many emotions all it once...

When i was young,,,i read a book called imperial blandings by pg woodhouse...it had a story called pigs with wings...i dont remember much of the story now....but the word pigs with wings just somehow lingered on..i love drawing fliying piggys ..n monkeys....

this blog is about random thoughts and scribbles that keep flying in and out of my bored head....i believe that boredom if not ignored which it usually is... can lead to alot of things...good ones and bad ones...i like to believe my boredom is constructive unlike destructive jerks who aimlessly scribble on rubbish on monument walls and trees,,,,they gladly deface their own cultural heritage just to keep them occupied...obviously they r very bored...moreso lazy,,,so lazy n bored they cant find a bluddy peice of paper to scribble on rubbish..i highly recommend blogging to such people..:P
